The University of Dayton will switch from Lotus Notes to Google Apps on Nov. 28, said Karen Bull, UD Information Technologies director of IT administrative services, in an email to Flyer News.

"We ended up pushing it back a bit from what we had originally planned so as not to interfere with registration for Spring term," Bull said in the email.

Flyer News first reported of the switch to Google Apps in November 2010. In January, Tom Skill, associate provost and chief information officer, said in a university-wide email that UDit planned to complete the technical requirements for the migration from Lotus Notes to Google Apps by mid-to-late fall 2011.

Google Apps "is an integrated communication and collaboration solution offered for free", according to a UD informational site about Google Apps. The system offers email and calendar capabilities, along with shared programs such as documents, groups and videos, the site said.
